British Science week this year ran from 11th to 20th March.
British Science Week is a ten-day programme of science, technology, engineering and maths events and activities across the UK for people of all ages.
As part of it we designed a talking educational poster about Bats that was housed in the foyer of Gallery Oldham for the week. With the help of South Lancashire Bat Group, we put together 10 interesting facts about bats from around the world and those found locally in Oldham.
On the 16th March we were at the Regional Science Centre as part of Oldham Sixth Form College’s “Let’s Experiment” day of events and workshops. Year 9 pupils from local secondary schools took part in a day of interactive and engaging science workshops.
Kakou provided a Foot Synthesiser workshop. First sound recordings were produced by the pupils using a number of props and items found in the lab. These sounds were then transferred onto an electronic board which could be controlled by sensors located on the floor – hence the foot synthsiser!
