On Monday 20th May, Ann from Kakou and fellow British Science Association Community Leader Mathew Rogers from St Michael’s Youth Project in Hull were invited to attend the All-Party Parliamentary Group meeting discussing Diversity and Inclusion in STEM.
A group of 24 participants from different areas of expertise – Government, educational charities, business and policy, convened at the Houses of Parliament in London to discuss great inequity in the provision of STEM education across different age groups, with those from poorer backgrounds or minoritised ethnic groups being left out of taking the top qualifications.
The meeting was was chaired by Baroness Brown of Cambridge.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diversity and Inclusion in STEM aims to promote the inclusion and progression of people from diverse backgrounds in STEM, and to encourage government, parliamentarians, academics, businesses and other stakeholders to work towards a STEM sector that is representative of the population. The Group also wants to consider and influence changes in policy that will lead to this outcome.
