Kakou CIC is pleased to publish its Annual Review for 2017-18.
Some of Kakou’s highlights from 2017-18 have included:
- We were invited to provide inclusive creative art workshops at the Connect 5 – Health and Wellbeing event organised jointly by Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council.
- For British Science Week 2018 we ran three public creative arts workshops with local community artist Lucie Maycock. From the workshops we created a sculpture of a sperm whale from recycled plastic. This sculpture was displayed at the Chesterfield Museum and Art Gallery as part of the Ocean Life Exhibition which we curated. The exhibition ran from the 9th March to end September 2018 and included a permanent video presentation, educational posters, interactive displays and a linked website (http://oceanlife.kakou.org.uk/public/) – all created by Kakou. The aim of the exhibition was to highlight the impact of plastics on the ocean ecosystem.
- Our Director, Ann spoke at the Women in Engineering Day (March 2018) organised by the University of Derby. It was attended by over 100 local college students.
- We continued our Accessible Orchestra technology research and development with members of the British Paraorchestra, Royal Academy of Music and UCL Institute of Education.
Over the coming year (2018-2019) we plan to:
• Strengthen Kakou’s core, contributing towards development, fundraising and marketing to sustain our future as a Community Interest Company, raise our profile and build industry partnerships.
• Continue the development of our Inclusive Orchestra technology.
• Further develop our community outreach activities, collaborating with more heritage and cultural organisations to maximise reach.
• Start running paid-for workshops for adults to encourage their involvement and learning of STEM subjects.
